I used to chase it like a destination.
The job.
The partner.
The savings account.
As if enough success would silence the tremble.
As if safety could be bought or earned or finally arrived at.
But every time I got close, the fear remained.
Or shapeshifted.
Or found some new doorway into my nervous system.
That’s when I realized:
Safety is not a place.
It’s a practice.

The Matrix wires us for external assurance.
Approval.
Income.
Insurance.
Authority.
It tells us: once you have all this, you can relax.
But safety built on control is not safety.
It’s surveillance.
It’s coercion in disguise.
So I had to unlearn the chase.
And start cultivating safety on the inside.

Now, I build safety like a fire.
I tend to it.
I breathe with it.
I create rhythms that remind my body it is no longer at war.
Soft lighting.
Intentional stillness.
Walking barefoot on soil.
Telling the truth to someone who can hold it.
Sometimes it’s not dramatic.
It’s just gentleness repeated
until the body believes you.

And when chaos comes (because it always will),
I don’t brace for collapse.
I return to the ritual.
To the breath.
To the body.
To the knowing: I have survived this before.
Safety is not a guarantee.
It is a repeated agreement
between me and my nervous system.
And every day I make it,
I reclaim another piece of myself
from the Matrix that taught me to be afraid.
